Diamond jewellery photography

Photographing diamond rings is not easy.  They are very small products, so to get them to stand in a position you want is tricky.  Gold is also a reflective metal, so it takes time to set up the studio to hide all the things you don’t wish to see reflected in the rings.  To make these rings look big in an image, you have to get in very close.  Doing this also enlarges all the imperfections like minute scratches and dust particles, which often not even our naked eye can see.  This is why digital retouching is so important.  Cleaning up the image, producing a nice crisp white background and also boosting up the colour of the rings in Photoshop takes time and expertise.  This is why more and more jewellers have given up the battle and are now searching for photographers like me to capture their amazing products.
